France has BANNED words relating to meat and dairy from being used in veggie and vegan packaging

France has BANNED words relating to meat and dairy from being used in veggie and vegan packaging

Apparently terms like 'vegan burger' and 'soya milk' are 'misleading' for France customers

The proposal for the ban came from Jean Baptiste Moreau, a National Assembly member who claimed that is it "important to combat false claims".

The ban includes terms like 'vegetarian sausage', 'cashew cheese',  'meatless bacon' and 'soya milk', and manufacturers who fail to comply with the ban could face fines of up to €300,000 (£263,000).

Mr Baptiste Moreau tweeted, “Adoption of my amendment in order to better inform the #consumer about what they are eating! It is important to combat false claims. Our products must be designated correctly: the terms #cheese and #steak will be reserved for products of animal origin!”
